Mike served the Athletic Department of Nanuet from September 1958 through June 1988.He started the football and basketball programs as the first varsity coach of both sports. During his tenure he also served as varsity wrestling coach and was assistant varsity track and field coach. Mike also coached numerous lower level teams through the years. Mike was the originator of the Little Brown Jug Award, symbolic of victory in the football series with Pearl River. HewasRocklandCountyFootballCoach of theYear in 1961. Mike was a charter member of the “Jerry Leo Scholarship” Committee and served as a member of the committee that named the football stadium. Significantly, Mike was always a strong advocate of parity in competition and he worked tirelessly to place Nanuet in an equitable league. Mike is remembered by his athletes as a “players’ coach”. Since his retirement in 1988 Mike has lived on Martha’s Vineyard off the coast of Cape Cod with his wife of 33 years, Karen. He is enjoying traveling, visiting his grandchildren from Louisiana to California to North Carolina and on the island, and keeping physically fit. Mike walks an average of 25 miles a week. Assistant to Dave Hanson during 1965 RCPSAL championship season. Coached Middle School Track and field “feeder” program Varsity wrestling Coach. 75+ career victories.
